Sebastopol World Friends is delighted to be opening a new chapter in our Takeo program development by partnering with Kagoshima University and Sonoma State University to help make possible a week-long, intensive International Studies program for Japanese students in the US.

On February 25th, we welcome 9 undergraduate students and 2 professors from Kagoshima U, who will enjoy homestays for the week with some of our wonderful Sebastopol families.  Our guests will be busy!  They will attend classes during the week at SSU, and in Sebastopol, they’ll learn about some of our local businesses that focus on sustainable development, like Guayaki and Taylor Maid, as well as sustainable community development projects, and programs like the Ceres Project. The students will even participate in a service project with the Stewards of the Redwoods in Armstrong Woods.  But don’t worry — we will make sure that they also have opportunities for fun with their host families, and perhaps a trip to the beach!

If you see our guests around town, please give them a smile and a warm Sebastopol welcome — we ALSO believe in creating world peace, one friendly hello at a time.
