Japanese Arts Festival in Santa Rosa on May 7th.  The volunteer group staffed the children’s activity booth and was comprised of board members, and many parents and student travelers from the recent Takeo exchange trip.  The morning rain didn’t dampen festivities much, and by noon festival goers were out in force enjoying the great food, entertainment and perusing the beautiful art offerings.  At the children’s booth, young festival goers learned how to fold an origami Samurai hat, create a small koi fish kite, or color a Daruma “wishing” mask.  Kids could also have their name written in Kanji on beautiful paper to take home.  Sonoma County Matsuri Festival is a non-profit which shares and promotes Japanese Art & Culture, while fundraising to provide scholarships to schools and students working on projects related to Japanese culture.  A portion of this year’s festival profits were also being donated toward the recent Kyushu earthquake. We are happy to support their mission.
